Early Life and Education

Paula Faris was born on October 26, 1975, in Jackson, Michigan, to Edward Faris, (father) and Carol Faris (mother). Her paternal grandparents were born in Lebanon and so by that fact, she is of half Lebanese descent. Paula was raised in Jackson, Michigan.

Paula attended Jackson Christian School. She later proceeded to study at Cedarville University and graduated with a degree in broadcasting, with an emphasis in television production in 1997.

Paula started her career in communication immediately after graduation. She took several communications-related jobs such as an operations position at Mills/James Productions in Columbus, Ohio. At that time, there were limited television opportunities, therefore, she also worked as a radio sales presenter.

Eventually, she later landed a job to work for a year as a production assistant at WKEF/WRGT, occasionally reporting and anchoring from time to time.

She also worked as the weekend sports anchor and weekday sports anchor at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati from 2002 to 2005. On the expiration of her contract, Paula moved on to become a sports reporter and anchor at the NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV in Chicago from November 2005 to December 2011.

December 2011 saw the announcement that Paula has been hired by ABC’s news division, ABC News. Thereafter, on January 2, 2012, she debuted for the network for its ‘World News Now’ and ‘America This Morning’ as well as occasionally appearing as a fill-in on ‘Good Morning America’ and as a correspondent.

Paula was later promoted and became the New York-based correspondent for all ABC News programs. January 22, 2013, was her final episode of World News Now and America This Morning.

Following the departure of Bianna Golodryga, who moved to Yahoo! News, Paula debuted as co-anchor of Good Morning America Weekend on August 9, 2014.

Thereafter, on August 25, 2015, ABC declared Paula would join The View as a co-host for season 19 and it was later announced that they have renewed Paula’s contract for its twentieth season on August 3, 2016, as well as renewed as co-host for Season 21.

July 18, 2018, brought the announcement by ABC about Paula’s departure from both ‘Good Morning America Weekend’ and ‘The View’ to take on a new role within ABC News as well as to begin a podcast that centers on the topic of faith produced by the network.

On that note, she made her final appearance as co-host of The View on July 20, while she aired her final episode as co-anchor of Good Morning America Weekend on September 29.

In September 2018, Paula landed the position of senior national correspondent for ABC News, then on November 14, she launched her podcast, titled “Journeys of Faith with Paula Faris”.

Paula has also written a book titled “Called Out” which debuted on April 21, 2020. The book, Called Out is a deeply personal book from the beloved in which she shares her journey through overcoming fears that almost kept her from the high-profile, high-stakes world of broadcast journalism, and then coming in contact with the dangers when that world menaced to consume her.
