- Early Life
Duane Lee Chapman was born on February 2, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, USA, to Wesley Duane Chapman.
Duane Chapman was a bail bondsman who worked for the Aaron Bail Bonds but has previously served in the US Navy aboard during the Korean War.
His mother, Barbara Darlene Chapman (née Cowell), an Assemblies of God minister. His mother is German while his father is English.
Duane Lee Chapman jr siblings, Michael, and two sisters, Jolene and Paula and they all grew up together.
However, he left home when he was 15 years old, after becoming a member of an outlaw motorcycle club named Devils Disciples.
Unfortunately in 1976, his friend shot and killed Jerry Oliver, over a deal to buy cannabis while he was also waiting in a getaway car. As a result of this, he was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Luckily, he was released on parole in January 1979, so he just spent one year and 6 months at Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas.

Duane first started his bounty hunter career which launched him into an entertainment career.
He was inspired to be a bounty hunter after succeeding in tackling an inmate who attempted to escape.
Receiving a congratulatory remark from a corrections officer instilled the idea of becoming a bounty hunter in him.
However, on June 18, 2003, Andrew Luster, Max Factor cosmetics heir, who was convicted in absentia gave Duane a remarkable opportunity to sharpen his skills as a bounty hunter.
He successfully captured Audrey with the help of his team and he came to international notice. This launched him into the entertainment industry.
He made his television appearance on August 30, 2004, alongside his family when he landed the first series of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ on A&E, running for eight seasons and ending in 2012. This was exactly after his appearance in the TV series ‘Take This Job’.
Following the cancellation of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’, September 25, 2012, beheld CMT announcement of a new reality series, ‘Dog and Beth: On the Hunt’ which would begin airing in April 2013.

Still giving marriage a chance, he married his third wife, Lyssa Rae Brittain (née Greene), in 1982 but divorced her in 1991. They had three children as well, Barbara, Tucker, and Lyssa.
At the fourth time, Duane married his fourth wife, Tawny Marie Gillespie, in 1991 and divorced her in 2003. They both had no children together.
Duane later met and married Alice Elizabeth “Beth” Barmore (née Smith) on May 20, 2006 who was previously married and had a daughter, Cecily Barmore-Chapman until her death on June 26, 2019.
