Early Life and Education

James Christian Kimmel was born on November 13, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Joan Iacono, of Italian ancestry from Ischia, and James Kimmel, who worked at American Express and was an IBM executive.

He was the eldest of three children of their parents and grew up in the middle-class neighborhood of Mill Basin and as a Catholic.

As a child, he was an altar server and lived out his Catholic faith. Today, his brother Jonathan works on his show as a director while his sister, Jill, is a comedian.

His family’s surname was “Kümmel” (“caraway” in German) several generations back because two of his paternal great-great-grandparents were German immigrants, hence the name Kimmel.

When he was nine years old, his family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Over there, he started his education and graduated from Ed W. Clark High School.

For his University education, he enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and studied there for one year, and also developed a passion for radio.

In the course of that, he received an honorary degree from UNLV in 2013. He later transferred to Arizona State University but didn’t graduate from there.

Jimmy Kimmel is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy Kimmel Live is a late-night talk show that premiered on ABC on January 26, 2003, at Hollywood Masonic Temple in Hollywood, California.

On April 1, 2019, at a secondary home, the Zappos Theater on the Las Vegas Strip, he repeated the same show. Kimmel hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012, 2016, and 2020, and the Academy Awards in 2017 and 2018.

Jimmy Kimmel started his hosting career in the radio industry while in high school. He was actually hosting an interview show on a local college radio station in his school.

Saturday evenings, he took interviews around UNLV and in its KUNV campus.

Also in Arizona State University, Jimmy was a popular live caller to the KZZP-FM afternoon radio show, constantly making calls and asking questions.

He started his official job in 1989, in the Seattle-based radio station, ‘KZOK-FM’, as the co-host for the show ‘The Me And Him Show’.

Jimmy only worked there for two months and was fired. This prompted him to his own radio show which he did with KCMJ (Kansas City Music Jam) in Palm Springs, California.

He later worked with the radio station in ‘KROQ’, in Los Angles. He hosted ‘The Kevin and Bean Show’ as the popular ‘Jimmy the Sports Guy. He also appeared on Fox Network promos, as ‘Jimmy the fox guy in 1996.

In 1997, he made his first performance on television as a co-host of the comedy game show ‘Win Ben Stein’s Money’ alongside Ben Stein. The show was broadcast on the Comedy Central Network.

In 1999, he co-hosted ‘The Man Show’ along with other producers – Adam Corolla, an American TV personality, comedian, and radio show host in which his ex-wife made regular appearances.

In the American romantic comedy film ‘Down to You, a small cameo role, he performed in 2000. That same year, in the American comedy film ‘Road Trip’, directed and written by Todd Phillips, he was the voice of ‘Corky’, a talking dog in the Film.

He had appeared in more than thirty movies and forty TV series, usually as himself or taking comedic characters.

The year 2003 brought him more achievements and popularity. First, he became a co-author and co-producer in the made-for-TV comedy film Windy City Heat.

Right after their break up, Jimmy met the now love of all his life, Molly McNearney, the co-author of his show scripts.

They were together for 4 years before making her his second official wife in 2013.
