Early Life and Education

Maria Molina was born on April 7, 1987, in the largest country of the Central American isthmus – Nicaragua. She grew up in South Florida, her hometown.

After her formative years in High School, in 2005 got admitted in Florida State University and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Meteorology, and minors in Mathematics and Communications. She also completed the University Honors Program and the Honors in the Major Program requirements of the same University.

In the year 2012, she started her studies at Columbia University in the City of New York for a Master of Arts (MA) in Climate and Society and graduated in 2015.

In 2017, she began her Ph.D. program in Philosophy in Earth and Ecosystem Sciences at Central Michigan University and still pursuing it.


In August 2008, Maria began her career as a 7th grade Earth and Space Science teacher at the North Broward Academy of Excellence in the Fort Lauderdale Area, Miami till July 2009.
She then worked as a bilingual TV meteorologist for AccuWeather atState College, Pennsylvania. She provided weather forecasts in both English and Spanish.

In October 2010, she joined Fox News Channel in New York City. For several of the company’s news programs, she served as a national weather forecaster, reported on Fox News Radio, handled news and entertainment reports online for Fox News Latino,appeared on the Fox Business Network, and Fox Sports Networks.

In 2016, she later resigned from her job at Fox News Channel in New York City to obtain a Ph.D. from the Earth and Ecosystem Science Program at Central Michigan University. She is also a graduate research assistant in the same University.

She currently works as a freelance TV meteorologist at FOX Television Stations in the Detroit area.


Maria has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

Marriage Life

She got married to Reed Timmer, a storm hunter who works with AccuWeather in December 2015. They actually met in 2004 when she covered a tornado in Mayflower, Arkansas while their engagement took place on October 6, 2014.

Their wedding took place in Nicaragua where she was born. The venue was Masaya Volcano National Park because of their love for extreme weather and nature.

Masaya Volcano National Park is her favorite place in the world.
They both divorced in 2018.
